The ceremony of the opening of the International Chess Festival Baku Open-2024 took place in Baku, organized by the Azerbaijan Chess Federation in cooperation with the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Among the attendees were the Minister of Youth and Sports of Azerbaijan Farid Gayibov, the President of the Azerbaijan Chess Federation Mahir Mamedov, and the President of FIDE Arkadiy Dvorkovich.
The holding of such a large-scale tournament signifies a high level of organization and the popularity of chess in the country. The participation of international grandmasters underscores the importance of Azerbaijan on the global chess stage.
Famous grandmaster from Azerbaijan Shakhriyar Mamedyarov announced that he will participate in the Azerbaijan Chess Championship after more than 20 years.
