In 2024, Spain became the center of numerous significant chess events, including national championships and international tournaments. We present a review of key moments from the past year.

Spanish Championship in Marbella

In December 2024, the Spanish chess championship will take place in Marbella, held under the Swiss system. After six rounds, the six participants will accumulate 5 points, demonstrating a high level of competition and mastery among Spanish chess players.

This championship will contribute to the growth of chess popularity in the country and enhance the training level of national players.

Open Tournament in Sijese

In December 2024, an open tournament with a prize fund of €27,155 was held in Sijese. After five rounds, all chess players, including Israeli grandmaster Ido Gorshtein, scored 4.5 points. The tournament attracted international participants and helped strengthen Spain's position as a significant center for chess competitions.

The holding of such tournaments contributes to the development of chess culture in the country and attracts the attention of the global chess community.

Spain's Participation in the 45th Chess Olympiad

In September 2024, the Spanish national team will participate in the 45th Chess Olympiad in Budapest. In the third round, the Spanish team secured a convincing victory over the Bosnian team with a score of 3.5:0.5, demonstrating a high level of play and team spirit.
