Outcomes of the Chess Year in Skopje: Key Events of 2024

In 2024, Skopje became the center of several significant chess events, attracting the attention of both local and international lovers of this ancient game. We present a review of key moments from the past year.

In December, the international chess tournament Skopje Open was held in Skopje, where 82 chess players participated, including representatives from Azerbaijan: Eltaf Safarli, Zaur Mamedov, Narmyn Mamedova, and Elnur Aliyev. The tournament's rating favorite was Eltaf Safarli.

The Skopje Open tournament reaffirmed Skopje's status as an important center for chess life in the region. The participation of strong international players like Safarli enhances the reputation of the tournament and stimulates increased interest in chess among the youth.

In July, the European Chess Championship for Fisher Random Chess will take place in Skopje, attracting the attention of leading chess players from the continent.

The holding of the European Championship for Fisher Random Chess in Skopje emphasized the city's ability to organize high-level events. This event contributed to the popularization of chess variants and strengthened international ties in the chess community.

In June, Azerbaijani grandmaster Eltaf Safarli achieved victory at the tournament in Voivodina (Serbia), which became a significant achievement in his career.
