In 2024, Yerevan confirmed its status as one of the leading chess centers in the world. We present an overview of the key events and achievements of Yerevan chess players over the past year.

In December 2024, Armenian grandmaster Shant Sarkisyan entered the list of leaders after the first day of the World Rapid Chess Championship in New York, securing four victories in five rounds, including wins against such top players as Vasily Ivanchuk and Anish Giri.

This success underscores the high level of preparation of Yerevan chess players and their competitiveness on the world stage.

In November 2024, the Individual Chess Championship of Europe was held in Chernogoriya, where 20 representatives of Armenia participated. A total of 395 chess players from 42 countries took part in the tournament.

The broad representation of Yerevan chess players at the European level indicates the depth and strength of the chess school in Armenia.

In September 2024, the 45th World Chess Olympiad was held in Budapest. Both Armenian chess teams achieved third place: the men's team defeated Brazil with a score of 3:1, while the women's team won against the second team of Hungary with the same score.

These achievements affirm the stability and power of Yerevan chess players on the international arena.

In October 2024, an international tournament dedicated to the memory of composer of chess studies, Gamlet Amiryan, began in Yerevan, marking the 90th anniversary of his birth. The tournament featured 19 participants from Armenia, Belarus, and Russia.

In September 2024, the Armenian women's team emerged victorious over the Chinese team with a score of 2.5:1.5 at the World Chess Olympiad, thanks to the victory of MM Anna Sarkisyan on the fourth board.
