Highlights of the Chess Year in Kalikult: Achievements and Events of 2024

In 2024, Kalikult once again reaffirmed its status as an important center of chess life, hosting prestigious tournaments and serving as a witness to outstanding achievements. We present an overview of the key events in the chess world that took place in Kalikult over the past year.

In November 2024, the Tata Steel Chess India tournament took place in Kalikult, featuring competitions in rapid and blitz formats. In the men's rapid event, Norwegian grandmaster Magnus Carlsen won first place with a score of 7.5 points out of 9 possible, securing the top spot until the end of the tournament. In the women’s rapid event, the title was claimed by Russian player Alexandra Goryachkina with the same result.

The victories of Carlsen and Goryachkina reaffirmed their high class and drew attention to the tournament, enhancing its prestige on the international stage.

In the blitz tournament of Tata Steel Chess India 2024 among men, there was once again no equal to Magnus Carlsen, who added a blitz gold to his triumph in the rapid event. Among women, the winner was Russian player Ekaterina Lagno, scoring 11.5 points from 10 games.

The dual success of Carlsen and Lagno, alongside a strong performance from Lagno, highlighted the high level of competition and the excitement of the tournament.

As part of the Tata Steel Chess India 2024 festival, master-classes and simultaneous exhibitions for young chess players were also held, contributing to the popularization of chess among youth and increasing interest in the game in the region.

Such initiatives contribute to the development of chess culture in Kalikult and the discovery of new talents.

The year 2024 has been rich and successful for the chess community of Kalikult. The holding of major international tournaments and participation in them by leading grandmasters of the world have strengthened local positions on the chess map and inspired a new generation of players to achieve high results.
