Chess Life in St. Petersburg: Results of 2024

In 2024, St. Petersburg confirmed its status as one of the leading chess centers in Russia, hosting a number of significant tournaments and events.

At the "Azimut" hotel, on August 17, an international chess festival "St. Petersburg Summer" started — a stage of the Russian Cup among men for classical chess "Memorial V.L. Korchnoy" with the participation of 375 chess players, as well as a stage of the Russian Youth Cup with 498 participants.

This festival became an important event in the chess life of the region, attracting both professionals and young talents from all over the country.

From October 24 to November 4, a traditional chess tournament "Memorial M.I. Chigorin" took place in St. Petersburg, marking its anniversary in 2024.

The "Chigorin Memorial" is one of the oldest and most prestigious tournaments in Russia, gathering the strongest chess players and contributing to the popularization of chess in the region.

On December 21, an interregional chess festival "Personal Team Cup of Great Champions of the World" took place at the "St. Petersburg" hotel, which featured 12 leading grandmasters and 5 international masters.

The festival included masterclasses, tournaments, lectures, and simultaneous games, presenting unique opportunities for learning and developing chess skills.

In 2024, the final of the 97th St. Petersburg Championship among men took place, which included winners of the previous year’s tournament.

The championship showcased the strongest chess players of the region, confirming the high level of training of participants and the interest in chess among St. Petersburg residents.

Throughout the year, regular chess tournaments for all ages were held in St. Petersburg, organized by the ChessChamp club, providing comfortable conditions and appealing to both beginners and experienced players.

Such initiatives contribute to the development of the chess community and the popularization of the game among the broader population.

In general, 2024 was marked by numerous chess events, strengthening St. Petersburg's position as one of the leading centers of chess life in Russia.
