In 2024, Kharkiv chess players continued to demonstrate high results at national competitions, reinforcing the position of the region on the chess map of Ukraine.
In December 2024, at the 42nd Salomon Flora Memorial, held in Horodenk, Kharkiv resident Alexander Alekseev won the silver medal, finishing just behind Vladimir Mikhailsky from Nezhin. The bronze was awarded to Lyubomir Mikhalets from Khmelnytsky.
This result underscores the high level of preparation of Kharkiv chess players and their ability to compete with the strongest players in the country. The tournament gathered 73 participants from 9 regions of Ukraine, which reflects its prestige and significance.
In December 2024, Roman Degtyarev from Kharkiv became the champion in the 14-16 years age category, receiving the E.M. Sozonov prize from the "Children's Chess" fund. Notable figures in this category included Vasiliy Lyakh from Kryvyi Rih and Evelina Trofimova from Nikopol/Ivano-Frankivsk.

In December 2024, at the Ukrainian Championship among men after the eighth tournament, Roman Degtyarev from Kharkiv, scoring 6.5 points, found himself in the group of leaders along with Daniil Mosenov, Vladimir Vetoshko, and Dmitry Maksimov.
