The departing year 2024 has been rich and fruitful for the chess community of Kyiv. We present to your attention a selection of the most significant events that have left a remarkable mark on the chess life of the capital of Ukraine.
In December 2024, the 92nd championship of Ukraine among men and the 83rd championship of Ukraine among women took place in Lviv. 127 chess players and 33 chess players from across the country participated in the tournament.
Kyiv chess players demonstrated high results, confirming the capital's status as one of the centers for chess development in Ukraine.
In September 2024, the 45th World Chess Olympiad was held in Budapest. The men’s team of Ukraine, which included Kyiv players, secured a historic victory over the strongest team in the world - the USA team, with a score of 2.5:1.5.
Particularly noteworthy is the contribution of Kyiv grandmasters in this success, which highlights the high level of training of the capital's sportsmen.
In December 2024, a tournament "Chess Arsenal" was held in Kyiv - an open team championship of the Holosiyivskyi district among students not older than 2012. In the final, 11 schools from the district participated, representing 34 players.
The winner of the tournament was Andrei Artamonov, demonstrating an outstanding result. This event witnesses the growing interest in chess among the youth of Kyiv and the effective work of the children’s chess schools.
In December 2024, Kyiv chess player Roman Degtyarev became the champion of Ukraine among men, scoring 7.5 points and surpassing the additional indicator of Mikhail Oleksienko.
This achievement confirms the high level of chess education in Kyiv and its contribution to the development of the national chess.
In December 2024, Kyiv chess player Yevgeniya Toroptsova became the champion of Ukraine among women, scoring 7 points and surpassing the additional indicator of Anastasiy Rahmangulov.
